My grandpa is kind of annoying. For example, he nags my sister and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Grandpa just held a 90th birthday "luncheon" for himself at his retirement home, where he made us sit through a lineup of 7 speakers, who he picked himself, and he introduced, all talk about him. A modest spread of chicken salad sandwiches was provided while we listened to old codgers recite his resume.
A couple weeks later, grandpa sent around a "sorry you couldn't make it to my party EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE MY RELATIVE" guilt trip email to a bunch of people. Including me. Even though I was at the party.
Dammit grandpa.

Some get good ones, others not so good ones. My grand father is 87 today and over the last few years he has turned into the most racist, ageist, sexist, etc... person I've ever met. Sometimes it's the age showing and occassionally they just aren't all that pleasant in the first place. But they've seen and done a lot of things in their time and stuff we really should be thankful for and appreciative of.
Let them have their rant and frustration because we'll be like that one day.

Ha, my grandmother, as much as I love her, can be a real character also. She's very racist... One time, my family went out to dinner to a very nice/up scale steak restaurant. After we got our food, she went on some rant for some unknown reason and said a few very offensive remarks regarding another race. We said quietly "This is a public place, please stop saying all of those racist comments" and she goes on about how "it's not race, it's ethnics" and how "it's not racist if its based in fact."
It can be very embarrassing, but there's not really much anyone can do about it at the end of the day. According to my father, she's been like that for quite some time, but as she's gotten older, it's gotten a bit worse.

Oh man that email is too much. I would lose my shit over that.
Then again, I do wish I had spent a little more time with my mom's dad before he died. I only met him about 3 times.

His actual birthday is the 25th, but he had the party on the 31st because my cousin's college graduation was on the 25th.

Oh. That is annoying. You are blessed though, I never met my dad's dad, and only met my mom's dad thrice, the last time when I was about 13. Both dead now.

My grandad was completely the opposite. He was a great man and I believe he is the one that taught me not to judge others be it on race/color/religion ect. You see My grandad grew up in a really french town everyone was french and you were expected to marry a french girl but my grandad fell in love with an irish nurse during WW2. So he pretty much said screw your beliefs I'm gonna marry who I want.
My grandad and grandma had 8 kids and they were together until the day he died at the age of 77. My grandma is now 91 and she is still totally devoted to him.
Needless to say I looked up to him very much. He passed when I was only 11 but now at the ripe age of 30 I still think he made me who I am today.

I see other peoples grand parents and they are great. Great sound boards for advice and support but others are just 'well I've done my part, off you go, but make me a cuppa before you go and bring the biscuits through'.
